MARii,Perodua,P2SA, & PDA collaborate to create employment & re-skilling for 1,000 displaced talents
The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn. Bhd. (Perodua), Perodua Suppliers Association (P2SA), and Perodua Dealers Association (PDA) inked Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to collaborate in creating new employment opportunities for local talents, as well as the re-skilling and re-employment of Malaysian talents displaced due to economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The exchange was held in Perodua’s headquarters in Rawang and witnessed by Senior Minister and Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, in conjunction with his visit to the national car maker’s manufacturing plant, last week.
“This strategic public-private initiative integrates the expertise, infrastructure, technology and facilities to address the immediate needs of the industry and preserving the livelihood of the Malaysian workforce.”, said Dato’ Madani Sahari, CEO MARii.
The MoU combines MARii's talent development expertise and Perodua’s vast value-chain to create new job opportunities within the multitude of areas of the automotive sector. The collaboration will also provide a lifeline for many Malaysians that have lost their jobs due to downsizing or retrenchment during the economic slowdown, through programmes developed to re-skill and re-employ them.
The programme will fulfil the automotive industry’s talent demands through the retention of existing talents from various sectors, and realigning their skills and experience towards future industries, including digitalisation, data-driven operations, smart manufacturing, creative design, digital sales and commerce, etc - in line with the nation's agenda to participate in the digital economy.
"We intend to firstly approach sectors affected hard by COVID-19 such as aviation, tourism and selected manufacturing industries. This collaboration is an important step in ensuring our workforce have the opportunities to continue growing in high-value careers, as we are aiming to integrate 1,000 talents in the automotive and mobility sector", Dato' Madani added.
“This collaboration is unique because it trains candidates to Perodua’s and the ecosystem’s specific requirements, thereby facilitating absorption into the industry. We thank the government for this collaboration at such an opportune time.”, said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
The development programmes will combine intensive technology-based knowledge loading and re-skilling modules in MARii's Academy of Technology, followed by on-the-job training (OJT) in Perodua’s manufacturing plants, dealerships, and vendors. Trainees will be able to secure permanent jobs upon satisfactory completion of the programme.
“This initiative will go some way towards assisting our members in the substitution of foreign talents with local talents, which is very welcome given the current employment uncertainties in the country.”, P2SA President En Musa Zahidin Tan Sri Ahmad Zaidee said.
“For the independent sales and service dealers, the collaboration will help streamline our customer experience as the training provided is oriented towards customer satisfaction. We look forward to working with MARii on this.”, PDA President En Khairul Nizam Ayob said.
The added experience gained from the collaboration will aid job seekers to secure higher-value jobs, enabling them to gain sustainable livelihoods post COVID-19.
