Numerous export and sourcing opportunities were manifested through collaborations established between Malaysian and Indian companies at the 8th International Engineering Sourcing Show (IESS 2019), held at the Chennai Trade Centre, India last week.
Within the span of the show, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) were signed between companies of both countries to further the business and technological collaborations between partnering companies.
Technology Partnerships established at the IESS
Four technology partnerships were signed by ORS Technologies (Malaysia) and Vernalis Engineering (India), IIOT Technology (Malaysia) and Jayvis Technologies (India), IIOT Technology and HIM Robotics (India) as well as Feiran Technologies and Team-D Technologies.
ORS Technologies – Vernalis Engineering
This MoU establishes a collaboration that utilises in-house engineering design and CAE (computer-aided engineering) simulation capabilities as well as Vernalis’ domain expertise and manpower resources with the objective of catering to local and overseas engineering project services through the Digital Engineering and Prototyping Program (DEP) organized by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii).
“Although ORS and Vernalis has had a working relationship for the past 6 years, our participation in IESS makes it a great occasion to sign this MoU here in India”, said ORS Managing Director, Khairulnizam Ruslan.
Khairulnizam further explained that business cultural barriers and norms often require partnerships with local expertise that have common goals and passions, especially in the areas of technologies that involve engineering design.
“There is an increasing trend in India where there is a marriage between technology providers and manufacturers. OEMs often do not have the time or can’t afford the skill sets that technology partners”, explained Muthu Kumar, CEO of Vernalis Engineering.
The partnering companies are looking to develop projects with USD 2 million (RM 8.2 million) in the areas of vehicle light weighting, virtual validation, robotics, IoT and other turnkey engineering applications.
IIOT Technology – Jayvis Technologies
The MoU between IIOT Technology Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia) and Jayvis Technologies Private Limited (India) was established to focus on machine learning and Artifical Intelligence (AI), mainly in Agriculture using IBM (Intelligent Business Machine) for the development of Smart Agriculture through the adoption of IoT in both countries.
IIOT Technology – HIM Robotics
IIOT Technology also signed an MoU with HIM Robotics focused on providing each other IoT, analytics platform, machine learning, Augmented Reality (AR), and robotics deployment services.
Feiran Technology – Team-D Technologies
A similar MoU was signed between Feiran Technology and Team-D Technologies at the IESS, taking advantage of each other’s capabilities in the automotive and aerospace sectors.
Shabudin Md Saman, Managing Director of Feiran Technology explained that being a technology partner to MARii, Feiran can leverage on Industry 4.0 programs organized by the agency, such as Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to assist Team-D towards achieving Industry 4.0-ready status.
He also said that MARii has been very aggressive and supportive in guiding the automotive industry towards Industry 4.0, especially through the Industry4WRD program (in which Feiran is a participant) that is structured together with the help of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).
“The end-products of these two industries may be different but the overall technologies used, and manufacturing processes are similar. This can enable us to integrate our technologies and machining processes, including Industry 4.0 related technologies and services”, said Mr Krishnakumar, Head of Manufacturing, Team-D.
Dealership Partnerships established at the IESS
Delloyd Industries (M) Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia) signed two MoUs – Venu Engineering Services Private Limited (India) and Durable Marketing Private Limited (India).
Both these MoUs were signed to encourage and promote collaboration in the areas of training, expertise, information, research and development, entrepreneurship, investment and other business activities.
Mr. Paul Gan, Director of Group Marketing & Business Development, Delloyd, explained that the MoUs signed will enable Delloyd to identify and establish potential business partners and strategic relationships with companies in India, with IESS being a major platform.
Delloyd Industries specialises in the manufacturing of various automotive components such as door handles, bumpers and mud flaps.
This initiative will enable the expansion of business areas of all the parties involved in the MoU, thus further enhancing the capabilities of the automotive industry in both countries.
