Perodua Ativa Launched – High localisation, advanced technologies, affordable price range

Perodua recently unveiled their first compact SUV, the Perodua Ativa through a virtual event officiated by Perodua Chairman, Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin. The model is also the first under the company’s Smart Build blueprint and has an affordable price range in result of its 95% localisation rate.

“The Perodua Ativa’s competitive pricing was made possible by its 95% localisation rate – the highest initial local content rate for any Perodua model. Even the engine and transmission are locally manufactured.”, Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad said.

Despite its competitive price range of RM61,500 to RM72,000, on-the-road before insurance in Peninsular Malaysia, the SUV comes equipped with advanced safety technologies and is also the local manufacturer’s first car to satisfy Autonomous Driving Level 2 standards, making it the cheapest car to achieve such a standard.

According to Dato’ Zainal, the Perodua Ativa’s introduction is significant as it brings Perodua’s collaboration with Daihatsu to a new level and allows Perodua and its suppliers to commonise components and processes for maximum cost efficiency.

“The Perodua Ativa was developed on a global platform as Perodua and Daihatsu pooled resources to offer the most competitive model we can produce. This was all done without sacrificing our unique Malaysian design, features and tastes.”, he said.

A total of 54 Malaysian designers and engineers worked with Daihatsu on the production of the Ativa since 2018. This effort allowed Perodua to include the Malaysian automotive ecosystem in the development of the SUV, allowing local suppliers to reduce their costs.

The launch of the Ativa also makes it the fifth of Perodua’s to be certified as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV), recording a fuel efficiency of 18.9 km/l.

Perodua’s enhanced version of their Advanced Safety Assist – ASA 3.0 comes equipped across the board. ASA 3.0 works at higher speeds (up to 120 km/h for vehicles, up to 60 km/h for pedestrians), and can now detect two-wheeled vehicles as well as function at night. Also on all variants are six airbags, automatic LED headlamps with Auto High Beam, plus Lane Departure Warning and Prevention.

The range-topping AV variant comes with some added driving technologies such as Adaptive Driving Beam, Lane Keep Control, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

With the Ativa now part of the Perodua family, the carmaker is expecting to contribute a total of RM6.5 billion to Malaysian automotive suppliers in the form of parts and components investments.

“We thank the Malaysian Government for acknowledging our contributions to the ecosystem and for their support,” said Dato’ Zainal.

He added, “We have so far received some 5,000 bookings for the Perodua Ativa since we began collecting orders on 19 February. We thank the public very much for their support. Deliveries will begin tomorrow (4 March), and we aim to deliver an average of 3,000 units a month.”.
