Perodua has submitted the country’s first candidates in Malaysia’s first official Vehicle Inspection Management System (VIMS) course offered at the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) training facility here.
VIMS, developed by AucNation Synergy and AIS Japan, aims to educate consumers on the roadworthiness of used and reconditioned cars in Malaysia.
“We applaud MARii for bringing this initiative to Malaysia, where the entire automotive industry will benefit from a standardised method of evaluating vehicles,” Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Dato’ Dr. Zahari Husin said.
The VIMS course offers modules that accurately reflect the condition of trade-in vehicles and make recommendations on which exterior or interior parts needed to be replaced or refurbished.
Dato’ Dr. Zahari further explained that this course can help improve Perodua’s Pre-Owned Vehicle (POV) business as the course will result in Perodua having certified evaluators with assured international standards, that is recognised by the government, which in turn, can help build credibility amongst their customers.
VIMS compared two analyses, visual analysis (VA) and diagnostic analysis (DA). The VA covers the exterior of the vehicle, while the DA is conducted using an on-board diagnostic 2 (OBD2) device that inspects the electronic aspect of the vehicle.
MARii CEO, Dato’ Madani Sahari said, “The course offered by AucNation is open to all OEMs and interested individual in order to have a more efficient and uniformed used vehicle market. Furthermore, MARii believes that having an independent body that would be able to scientifically and objectively determine the “health” or a pre-owned vehicle will help in identifying roadworthy vehicles”.
Dato’ Madani further explained that this initiative will further shape the end-of-life vehicle (ELV) initiative for the betterment of all Malaysians.
Perodua has submitted 40 names for the programme, which, when certified will be relocated to its sales outlet to assist its customers to trade in vehicles, explained Dato’ Dr. Zahari.
