On January 4th and 5th, Pusat Khidmat Rakyat Parlimen Penampang (PEKA) hosted an event focusing on strength (Strongman) and Athletics Capability (Ninja Warrior) in partnership with MARii. The event was called Strong, Active and Fit Penampang 2020.
The event also hosted 28 different local SME's to participate in a showcase to market their product and services. Besides MARii, two other agencies under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI),Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Institut Piawaian dan Penyelidikan Perindustrian Malaysia (SIRIM) came to compliment the event.
MARii’s focus on this event was mainly on career and entrepreneurship in which they deploy their associates to promote 4 key areas. Job opportunity, Career Development, Entrepreneurship Enhancement and Entrepreneurship Opportunities. MARii also invited the local tech group Kinabalu Coders to demonstrate VR, 3D Printing, RaspberryPI and an autonomous driving robot.
“We are here to show our support and encouragement to all the athletes apart from showcasing our programmes to build industries in Sabah especially in Penampang .” said MARii CEO, Dato’ Madani Sahari.
The Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Darell Leiking was also present during the event, for the final of the Strongman Competition and the prize giving ceremony. Also present was the wife of Datuk Darell Leiking, Datin Jennifer Aileen Jongiji, on the first day of the events to visit the area and its people during the event.
During the day, all the participants had to go through a series of tough challenges to find out the strongest and fittest male and female athletes in the Penampang area. The events for Strongman included events like the Atlas Stone, Yoke Carry and Tyre Flips. While the Ninja Warrior Included events like the Pegboard, the Kung Fu bars and Diamond Ladder Bar.
The main event sponsor MARii also had a surprise in hand by giving away 2000 t-shirts to the public that attended the event.
Overall the event ended with a live performance by Marsha Milan and Velvet Aduk after the prize giving ceremony. In total, the event garnered more than 2500 visitors to the show and more 60,000 on line viewers throughout the whole 2 days.
